Javier Zarraonandia

Javier Zarraonandia, Director of Corporate Development since September 2021, drives the firm’s origination activities and strategic growth.

Albia IMAP strengthens its leadership in mid-market M&A through senior execution, sector specialization and direct international access to buyers and investors.

Albia IMAP, a firm specialized in M&A advisory services for mid-market companies, has announced the appointment of Javier Zarraonandia as Partner.

With this appointment, the firm recognizes his contribution to the company’s growth and reinforces its strategy to consolidate its position as a leading advisor in the Spanish market.

Following his appointment, Zarraonandia stated: “I approach this new stage as partner at Albia IMAP with great enthusiasm, but also with the utmost sense of responsibility. For me, it is an honor to be part of a team of such outstanding human and professional quality.

Zarraonandia joined Albia IMAP in September 2021 as Director of Corporate Development, a role from which he has led opportunity origination, the development of strategic relationships and the launch of initiatives aimed at accelerating the firm’s M&A activity, including the development of opportunities with an international component.

During this period, he has been involved in significant transactions such as Abac Capital’s entry into the fire protection systems business through the acquisition of Grupo de Incendios—driving a growth project with consolidation and international expansion ambitions—and the advisory role to Ameztoi in its integration into Urkabe Benetan, a company backed by Stellum Food & Tech. This alliance aims to create a leading ready-meals group in Spain, diversify distribution channels (retail and horeca), and accelerate international expansion. These transactions reflect his contribution to activating strategic relationships and executing transactions with a clear focus on growth and consolidation.

Previously, Javier Zarraonandia held senior positions in the public and industrial sectors, serving as Vice-Minister of Industry of the Basque Government (2015–2021), after having worked as Director of Energy and Industrial Administration (since 2012).

He has also chaired key entities within the investment and industrial ecosystem, such as the Basque Country’s Venture Capital Company, Ekarpen Sociedad de Inversión, the Basque Technology Parks Network, and Basque Trade & Investment. In addition, he has served as a board member of SPRI, the Basque Energy Agency (EVE), and the Basque Institute of Finance.

In the private sector, he began his career at Arthur Andersen (later Garrigues), where he worked for four years, and subsequently served as General Manager of Grupo Arrillaga for another four years. He holds a Law degree from the University of Deusto and a Master’s degree in Taxation from Arthur Andersen.
