NEW HEALTHCARE M&A REPORT Q2 2026

The healthcare M&A market remained highly active throughout 2026, confirming its position as one of the most attractive sectors for both strategic and financial investors. While deal activity across Europe moderated slightly during the second quarter, Spain continued to stand out as a key investment destination thanks to the quality of its healthcare companies, strong innovation capabilities and ongoing consolidation opportunities.

A total of 37 healthcare M&A transactions were recorded in Spain during Q2 2026. Activity was almost evenly split between financial investors (51%) and strategic buyers (49%), highlighting the strong appeal of a sector that continues to offer attractive opportunities for growth, specialisation and value creation.

Spain also continued to attract significant international investment. Cross-border transactions accounted for 38% of total deal activity, while domestic transactions represented 62%. France, the United States and the United Kingdom remained among the most active international investors in Spanish healthcare assets.

From a subsector perspective, Medical Devices and MedTech led the market with 14 transactions, followed by hospitals and clinics and the pharmaceutical sector, with 8 deals each. Healthcare technology, medical innovation and growing demand for specialised services continue to drive investor interest across the industry.

Consolidation remains one of the defining trends shaping the healthcare M&A landscape. Companies and investors are increasingly pursuing acquisitions to gain scale, strengthen competitive positioning, expand capabilities and accelerate international growth. This trend is particularly visible across medical devices, healthcare services, diagnostics, consumer health and biotechnology.

At a European level, healthcare M&A activity during the first half of 2026 surpassed the volume recorded during the same period in 2025, although it still remains below the peak levels achieved in 2024. In this environment, Private Equity continues to play a pivotal role in supporting industry transformation, platform-building strategies and market consolidation initiatives.
