IT Consulting M&A: Deal Activity Normalises in Q2 While Sector Consolidation Continues
The IT Consulting M&A Market Remains Strong
The Spanish IT consulting and technology services sector recorded 14 M&A transactions during the second quarter of 2026, a level broadly in line with the same period in 2025 and a clear indication of the sector’s continued resilience and attractiveness.
Following an exceptionally active start to the year, deal activity has returned to more typical levels while remaining above many historical benchmarks. The sector continues to attract significant interest from strategic buyers and investors seeking exposure to long-term technology growth trends.
Albia IMAP’s latest sector update highlights that digital transformation, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, data management and cybersecurity remain key drivers of investment and consolidation across the market.
Strategic Buyers Continue to Drive M&A Activity
One of the most notable trends during the quarter was the dominance of industrial buyers, which accounted for 86% of all transactions. Activity was evenly split between independent strategic acquirers and private equity-backed platforms, underlining the importance of M&A as a tool for expanding technological capabilities and accelerating growth.
Several leading technology groups completed acquisitions aimed at strengthening their positioning in high-value areas such as digital transformation, data analytics, artificial intelligence, cloud solutions and specialised technology services. These transactions reflect a broader trend within the sector, where acquisitions are increasingly used to enhance expertise, strengthen market positioning and respond to evolving client demands.
Domestic Consolidation Remains the Dominant Theme
The second quarter was characterised by a strong domestic focus. Spanish buyers were responsible for 86% of all transactions, highlighting the growing role of local operators in driving sector consolidation.
Cross-border acquisitions represented the remaining share of activity, demonstrating that Spanish IT consulting firms continue to attract international interest thanks to their specialised capabilities, technological expertise and strong market positions.
Artificial Intelligence, Cloud and Data Services Lead Investment Trends
The transaction landscape confirms that digital transformation remains at the centre of corporate activity within the sector.
The most active areas included digital transformation services, managed services, cloud solutions, data analytics and artificial intelligence. As organisations continue to modernise operations and accelerate technology adoption, demand for highly specialised service providers remains strong.
Acquisitions are increasingly being used as a strategic tool to gain access to specialised talent, enhance technical capabilities and strengthen competitive positioning in a rapidly evolving technology landscape.
A Sector Undergoing Significant Transformation
Beyond M&A activity itself, the industry continues to experience profound structural change. The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence, increasing focus on European technological sovereignty, strategic repositioning among major consulting groups and pressure on traditional service delivery models are all reshaping the competitive environment.
In this context, mergers and acquisitions remain a key mechanism for technology companies seeking to adapt, scale and position themselves for future growth.
Outlook for the IT Consulting M&A Market
IT consulting remains one of the most attractive sectors for corporate transactions in Spain. Strong structural growth, ongoing digitalisation initiatives and increasing demand for specialised expertise continue to support a healthy deal environment.
Looking ahead, M&A activity is expected to remain focused on areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data analytics and digital transformation services. These segments are likely to continue attracting significant interest from both strategic acquirers and financial investors as the sector’s consolidation journey progresses.
